He confirms that saying no to sex tonight was the right choice because, unlike other occasions, her kiss doesn't make him want to push her against the wall and devour her. He does wish he could take her home to cuddle her, though. Emotional comfort is needed now.
"Of course." He kisses the corner of her mouth. "You aren't getting rid of me so easily." The lamest attempt at a joke.
When Jaskier arrives home, though, he doesn't text her. It had been his original plan after announcing he was leaving: to text her later to confirm her parents didn't give her any shit. After what happened, though? He's emotionally exhausted. So instead, he grabs a bottle of liquor and goes to the garden to watch the stars while he gets absolutely drunk. He doesn't even care about his nice suit touching the grass.
Soon, Geralt comes out and sits next to him, so they start passing the bottle. Jaskier knows it's his way to try to make him drink less.
"I know what you're going to say. I don't want to talk about it."
"Mmmh."
Geralt doesn't push and Jaskier is grateful. He ends up falling asleep on his friend's thigh, with that big hand patting him on the back. The next morning, he wakes up in his bed when Cirilla bursts into his room to thank him for the dresses with the amount of excitement that only a teenage girl can achieve.
His head is killing him - fuck hangovers. But he doesn't want to go downstairs and meet Yennefer's judgment yet. So he grabs his device from the night table and hides under the covers to finally text Midge.
Good morning, darling. Ciri loved the dresses; she sends you her regards. How are you feeling? I hope your parents weren't too nosy after I left.
Of course her parents wish to speak with her after she goes back into the apartment. It isn’t a fight so much as a warning. This man isn’t for her. He will only break her heart. A small part of Midge can’t help but wonder if they’re right. She protests that they’re just friends, there’s no romantic relationship. It isn’t a lie, technically. After begging exhaustion and a headache, Midge goes to bed. She falls asleep with her device in her hand, waiting to see if Jaskier texts her.
The next morning, she’s awoken to the ping and vibration of a text from him. After the initial grogginess, her heart leaps with excitement.
I’m so glad she loved them! I’m okay. We talked, and they’re worried, but I reassured them.
They're worried. Of course they fucking are. Jaskier wonders what words were used exactly, how much Midge is simplifying into just 'worry'. Thinking about this doesn't help his headache, so he reminds herself to trust her.
I suppose that's as much as we can ask for. I hope you understand now why I think traveling to the wedding with them may not be a great idea. As much as I liked the bus option, I think we should do portals after all. Consider: no traveling time, so we can get there much earlier than them and have some fun without having to sneak around.
Sleepy. Enjoying some extra time in bed before leaving for class.
He won't mention the hangover, he doesn't want her to worry or jump to conclusions just because he got drunk last night.
Honestly, in her heart of hearts, Midge can’t begrudge her parents the worry that they feel. Sometimes, she feels it too. She worries that she won’t be enough for him, that she’s not good enough for him to want to be with exclusively.
Travel by portal is easy, so I can’t argue against that. We’ll just have to avoid other family if we get there separately.
Are you telling me that other family will be there early on a Saturday? Fuck. Part of me wants to say that we should drop on Friday night, but I suppose that would make your parents suspicious.
At the hotel and possibly around town, yes. Leah’s family will get there a bit earlier, plus some relatives from out of town. We’ll just need to be careful.

Now I’m picturing you in bed.

Should I picture you like that too?

You may. Would you like to know what I’m wearing?

I'd love nothing more. I only have my underwear on.

Oh, lovely. I’m wearing a pink satin nightgown with lace trim and nothing on underneath it.
