“It feels like I curled my hair for nothing,” she replies. She probably ought to have gotten a scarf from the room, but Jaskier was intent on getting her out here before she changed her mind. The flowers are nice though.
“If you like the wind in your hair, we should find a yacht to go on.”
"Here I am, trying to be philosophical..." He shakes his head and pats Ebony on the neck. "Can you believe this, girl?" Ebony has no opinions; she's just happy to have an actual good rider who knows how to make her run instead of awkward tourists.
"She is not the one offending me right now," he teases. "I wish I had known we were coming here, I would've brought her an apple."
Maybe the stable man can give them some when they come back.
"Sailing!" he exclaims with excitement. "Yes! We definitely can go sailing." He laughs at Midge's observation. "We can do a bit of lounging, I don't mind. I've brought some books. But I don't want it to be the main thing, no. Lounging is the break to rest after the fun. We're at this amazing place, I want to explore it! If I only wanted to lounge, I'd do at home in my underwear."
“It’s lounging by the sea though,” she says. “It’s a different sort of lounging.” There’s something far more relaxing about being here than trying to relax at home. Too many stressful things there. It’s nice to get away from all that.
Midge presses a kiss to Jaskier’s neck. “I’m happy you’re here with me.”
"A whole month without performing?!" The mere idea terrifies him. "I'm going to be on Susie's side on this one. You're insane."
They've gone far enough, almost reaching the limits of the field. Jaskier looks at the horizon for a few seconds before guiding Ebony to start making their way back. They're still on a canter, so they still have time to enjoy the fresh air and the flowers.
"Ebony has been a good listener, maybe you should tell her a joke."
“In my defense, it was still pretty early in my career,” Midge replies. “My parents didn’t even know yet. I probably wouldn’t go a month without a gig now.”
She understands that Susie is trying to build and keep momentum. Midge has been down about herself since the Shy incident, but she’s finally starting to gear herself up again.
Midge lovingly rubs Jaskier’s chest, wanting to show him some affection. “Okay. What do you call an unsupportive horse?”
"You better," he says very seriously. He doesn't want her to fall behind. Honestly, he's impressed that Susie just made a long trip from the city to keep Midge on her toes. What a great manager.
Her hand makes him smile, so he covers it with his to squeeze it.
"I don't think the answer is the first Roach I met. Alright, what do you call it?"
Jaskier chuckles at the joke and pats Ebony's head until she neighs.
"Look, she liked it! Now you can tell Susie that you've successfully performed."
For the rest of the ride, Jaskier sings random road songs. It feels so fucking good to be out and about! When they make it back to the stables, he asks the stableman to take a picture of them on top of the horse before they come down. Jaskier easily jumps off, then both he and the stableman offer a hand to help Midge down.
"Told you the shoes would be fine," he teases.
Next, he asks the stableman if he has apples, and the guy is kind enough to bring them one. He noticed that Jaskier is an actual rider, so Ebony has earned it after doing more exercise than usual.
Jaskier cuts the apple the way Geralt taught him and giggles when Ebony eagerly takes it from his hand. He offers the other half to Midge. "Want to try?"

"Can you feel the wind, Midge? Doesn't it feel like floating? Like flying? Like freedom?"

"What's a yacht?"

“A huge, luxurious boat,” she continues, “where you can lounge and swim and drink. You’re clearly more active on your vacations than I am.”
He’s into riding horses while she would rather be lazy in the sun.

She’s looking forward to his band’s performance. They’ve practiced so much. She hopes Leah appreciates it.
“I warned Susie about not popping up this weekend.”

Since they're chatting, he makes Ebony stay on a canter. The comment makes him very confused. "Why would Susie pop up here?"

“She’s done it before when I’ve gone out of town. Granted, that was when I was going to the Catskills for a month, not a weekend.”
Four days without a gig? How will either of them survive?
